Too often the experience of dementia is accompanied by dehumanizing "invisibility". Your remarkable memoir counteracts that in the way that it personalizes the experience. You have opened your heart and your mind to be present to give and receive the the gifts of the relationship with your mother and, in doing so, have demonstrated that love prevails for both no matter what. I was deeply moved by your reading - the metaphors stay with me and create such beauty. Cathie, this must be performed. By the end of the decade more than 25% of the population in the US will be over the age of 65. The experience of Alzheimer's is and will be a common human condition in our world. Your piece can have such an impact on an artistic level, but also a societal level. I'm, indeed, fortunate, to have seen it. Although I have never met your mother, the lovely images you have created have allowed her to move through one of life's challening conditions with grace, beauty, wit and a nurturing spirit. Dear Cathie -- I heard your reading/presentation at the Soceity for Arts in Health Care conference in Buffalo, and the experience was one of the most moving things I've ever heard -- I loved the way you found to enter your mother's world of thought and language during her journey into Alzheimer's and the way it became a journey you could take together to discover each other in new ways. Your writing is lyrical and intelligent. I hope your book, "The Other Side of Here," is published soon, and I can also see it as a theatrical performance and/or a radio play. Best wishes, Ellen S. Jaffe, M.A. writer, teacher, psychotherapist author of "Writing Your Way: Creating a Personal Journal" (Sumach Press).

Cathie, Your memoir is one of the most inspirational, powerful things I have ever heard in all the years I have been working in dementia care. I feel so blessed to have heard it. It is so important for everyone to hear or read and once I can get a copy of your book, I plan to use it in my teaching with students training to work with persons with dementia and their families. I applaud you for the very important work you are doing. If I and the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program at the University of Waterloo can help you get your message out, please do not hesitate to call. Dear Cathie, Where can I get your book? Your presentation in Buffalo was exquisite. The description of your mother's living with dementia, as well as your experience, is exactly what I want to teach my students. I cannot wait to read your work and see another performance. I will use your work in my teaching and research. Please stay in touch!

Cathie my dear-Having known your mother well for years, and having loved her for her marvelous sparkle and delicious sense of humour, the quotes from your book bring back a myriad of wonderful memories. I can scarcely wait to read the whole manuscript. Congratulations, good luck, and keep me posted. Love Nonie
