The Long Hello of Alzheimer’s

Presented by~ Cathie Borrie RN, BSN, MPH, LLB

This presentation illustrates how creative writing led a daughter into an unconventional dance with her elderly mother who had Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s—transforming a seemingly despairing experience of loss and grief into one which revealed a meaning and beauty not often highlighted in the literature and experience of dementia.
This tender and moving elegy serves as proof that love, loyalty and listening will always provide a canvas for the magical and limitless potential of a changing mind.

 HAPPY NEWS!
For the third time, excerpts from my forthcoming memoir have been been shortlisted in the CBC Literary Awards National Competition.

Following closely on the heels of the CBC Shortlist Announcement, I presented an excerpt of my creative non-fiction lyrical memoir "The Other Side of Here, The Long Hello of Alzheimer's" at the International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease in Greece in March. The presentation combined a reading of an excerpt from the text with a self-produced dance-themed film clip, intended to serve as a cinematic metaphor for the essence of the writing.
